Here are some highlights from Eastbourne Festival 2009
It was a big hit with audiences around the town and brought together some big names from the world of theatre, comedy and literature and loads of local talent.

Members of the Eastbourne Photographic Society kindly photographed many of the events during this years Festival. Particular thanks to Paul Powici for co-ordinating this and thanks to Jim Ringland, Jeannie Luck,
Keith Deverson and Val McManus for participating.

The varied programme included the hugely popular Eastbourne Festival Live pop music event at the Winter Garden, including DJ Zane Lowe, chart toppers Friendly Fires and the Maccabees, drum and bass DJ Andy C and Chase & Status. Fantastic audiences were reported at Sing-Along-A-South Pacific, Ska Toons and The Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra. The Little Polka Cafe provided an intimate venue for the first UK performance of Poet Maria Jastrzebska's drama 'Dementia Diaries' with music specially composed by Peter Copley, complimenting Polska by the Sea, an installation of photographs at Eastbourne Train Station by Lisa Barnard, Mark Hewitt and LLL Productions.

Flickering projections and standard lamps transformed an empty shop into a Little Basement of Old and New Stories, ably presented by The Dark Lantern Players with Amanda Champness and Friends. The Redoubt Fortress hosted remarkable site specific performances including Blue Monkey Studio's 'Circumnavigation' show and a whole range of childrens and community workshops, performances and events including a final weekend of cultural events there with Eastbourne Cultural Communities Network's 'Sunday Funday' with drumming, music and dance, a chance to sample arts and crafts activities and varied food stalls.

Throughout the Festival there was a full programme of lunchtime recitals at Eastbourne Parish Church. Elsewhere the classical music programme included concerts by the international Violinist Giovanni Guzzo, singer John Hancorn, Hendrik Bouman, Harpsichord, and Charles Daniels, Tenor, plus a 'Carmina Burana' workshop organised by The Eastbourne and District Choirs Association. There was ample opportunity to visit numerous Artists Open Houses and Studios over the three weekends and many more events, workshops and performances.
